Makassed Philanthropic Islamic Association in
Beirut is a non-governmental non-profit association, devoted to promote the
development of Makassed society members based on high morals and ethics.
Makassed association works within the concepts of the Islam religion, to
promote social development, capacity building, and education for the future

founding of Makassed Association? Who was responsible for its
establishment?
Makassed Philanthropic Association in Beirut was
established in year 1878, 125 years ago, where Sheikh Abd-Alkader Kabbany - one
of the most prominent intellectuals among Arabs and Muslims at that time - was
the initiator for its establishment. The founding members were: Ahmad Derian,
Badieh Al-Yafy, Bashir Al-Barbir, Hasan Bayhum, Hasan Al-Trabulsy, Hasan
Moharram, Khodr Al-Huss, Raghib Izzeddine, Saed Al-Jundy, Saed Tarabaih, Taha
Al-Nsouly, Abdallah Ghezzawy, Abdel-Kader Sinno, Abd-Allatif Hamadeh,

Fajr Al Sadik", and what does it stand for ?
The "Kitab Al Fajr Al Sadik" is the very first
declaration of the Makassed Association. The declaration includes the mission
statement and goals of the association at the date of its foundation, the names
of the donors who supported Makassed Association - around 1500 people -
who were from the Ottoman governors, and some Muslim and Christian citizens
from Lebanon and Syria.

The goal of initiating this unit is to cover the
annual financial deficit in the balance sheet of the Educational Directorate.

Makassed Educational Services now covers all the
Lebanese districts. This is provided through 38 elementary and middle schools
outside Beirut city, distributed in Bekaa, North, South, and Mount Lebanon

Yes, Makassed Association established an office
in Washington City named "Makassed Foundation of America". This office was

institute offers the following degrees: 1 - The Bachelor of Science degree
in Nursing (B.S.): offered to the Official Bacc. II holders after passing 3
years of study in the institute, and allows graduates to practice in the
nursing field, teach in nursing, or apply to the Master degree. 2 - The
Baccalaureate Technique (B.T.) in Nursing care: offered to the Official Brevet
holders after 3 years of study; thus, allowing the graduate to practice a
nursing career, or apply to the B.S. degree. 3 - The Practical Nurse
Degree: which is offered to the School Brevet holders after one year of study,

Makassed General Hospital is an academic
developed hospital that was established in 1930. It includes 200 patient's
beds, served by around 125 specialized doctors, 322 nurses, and 353
administrative employees. Makassed Hospital is characterized - in addition
to providing the medical services in various specialties; internal medicine,
pediatrics, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, anesthesiology,
pathology, and outpatient clinics; - by the establishment of the
following elaborate specialized centers, namely: - Bone Marrow
Transplant Center which is the first in Lebanon. - Comprehensive
specialized center for Coronary Diseases and Surgery, with an Intensive Care
Unit. - Laboratory and Blood Bank. - Providing the

Yes, Makassed General Hospital cooperates with
the American University of Beirut, Beirut Arab University, and the Lebanese
University for medical training in general medicine and several specialties.

Lille French University, and for research aspects with Gustave Rossy Institute

Makassed schools cost ?
Makassed Philanthropic Islamic Association
offers free education - with only nominal yearly registration fee required - in
most of its elementary schools, since this concept of free education is
embedded in Makassed mission statement. As for the intermediate and secondary
stages, education is offered through a subsidized reduced fee structure that
could be afforded by average families. Students from poor families or suffering
from financial hardship are exempted from fees through the school grant system.
In addition, Makassed association awards special students through the exemption
of fees up till their graduation.

in the rural districts allocated for teaching and memorizing of the holy Koran;

Makassed Women's League Association is a women
organization that was established in 1980. The organization depends on the
voluntary effort of the women members to promote the situation of women,
children, and the deprived families. This is implemented through different
supportive activities in Makassed schools, hospital, and social health centers.
One of its continuous projects are "Winter clothes for Beirut and rural
Makassed school students", and "Financial support to patients in Makassed
hospital, and organizing recreational activities for them".

Tarik El-Jadida Center for Urban Development was
established with a financial support from the Urban Management Program-United
Nations Development Program. It is an environmental-social center with the
concept of partially solving the problem of residential solid waste through
sorting from the source, and recycling. Furthermore, the center concentrates on
women capacity building through offering artistic training courses on the
techniques of environmentally friendly handcrafts that depend on the on the
reuse of the sorted solid waste as raw material. In addition to that, the
center organizes an Awareness and Advocacy Program for Women, and a Children

Electronics, Industrial Mechanics, Air Conditioning, Interior Design, and

developmental mission statements and goals and tools of implementation; thus,
